Sign of the Season

It was June 20, 2007 at about 3:00AM when I was awakened by some buzzing noises. When I looked around to investigate, I was amazed to see dozens of insects gathered at the flourescent light outside my window. I grabbed my camera, went outside, and took some pictures of the occurrence.

The insects were attracted to the light. They were all over the vicinity of the light -- on the ceiling, on the wall, on the floor, and some of them even got inside my shirt. One distinct characteristic of these insects is that their wings fall off after some time of flying and they die afterwards. Some of them drowned in the pail of water.

There were insect-eating creatures that feasted on them -- I saw lizards, frogs, and cockroaches. In the morning, ants feasted on what was left of the insects' dead bodies.

Local folks said that when such insects show up, it is an indication of a coming rain or a season of ample rain -- prompting traditional farmers to prepare for planting.

Indeed, at about noon a heavy downpour occurred.

Heavy downpour symbolizes blessing, but at other times it symbolizes judgment. Different insects symbolize different things.

Because the season is sufficient, it will yield the kind of harvest that you plant. Therefore, be wise and sow only the good seeds. Do away with the eggs of the cockroaches and avoid the seeds of the frogs. Beware of the fan-foot lizards' eggs; for like their toes, they exude poison.

Look around, what are you sensing lately? What is God impressing on your spirit? What preparations are you doing?

Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap according to kindness. Break up your fallow ground; For it is time to seek the Lord, until He comes and rains righteousness on you. (Hosea 10:12)
